Coutanseaux Aîné is one of the historic houses of Cognac, with origins tracing back to the 18th century in Jarnac — one of the two key towns along the Charente River where France’s most prestigious brandy was born. Situated between oceanic and continental climates, the terroir of Charente offers chalk-rich soils that nurture Ugni Blanc grapes with remarkable acidity — ideal for distillation into fine eaux-de-vie. The house has long upheld the craftsmanship of double distillation in small copper pot stills (alambic charentais), aging its spirit in fine-grained Limousin oak casks. The “Hors d’Âge” expression represents its pinnacle — a blend of venerable eaux-de-vie, some matured well beyond 30 years, capturing centuries of savoir-faire and patience passed down through generations.
